Celebrating Black History with Year 2

Celebrating Black History with Year 2

This morning the hall was packed with parents and children to watch the year 2 assembly. Year 2 have been learning about Mary Seacole and how she helped soldiers in the Crimea War as a nurse. We learned she travelled from Jamaica to England and then on to Turkey. She was very brave and very kind. After the war she was presented with a medal by Queen Victoria and wrote a book about her adventures.

As part of the assembly the rest of the school shared their learning about important figures in Black History. We heard about Muhammed Ali, Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama. Year Six gave a splendid performance of the Zulu song Mrs Joseph taught them about trying to free Nelson Mandela.
