On Friday, we were finally able to celebrate World Book Day at Parklands- not even snow will stop us from celebrating our love of books! Parklands was filled with hundreds of different characters from well-known children’s books. It truly was an amazing sight! Across school, every class took part in lots of exciting activities linked to different books and authors. Y1 were inspired by a brilliant picture book called ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. Can you believe the chairs in Year 1 decided to quit on World Book Day because they were fed up of not being tucked in? Our children had to work hard to write a letter to ask the chairs to come back as they found that sitting on the floor wasn’t very comfortable at all. In Year 5, children teamed up and took part in a book bonanza quiz. We also made our own bookmarks featuring quotes from famous children’s books.
Every child received a book token. Don’t forget to take this to your local bookshop to claim your free book! We would like to thank all of the children, parents and the community of Parklands for their outstanding efforts on World Book Day- well done everyone! World Book Day part two will take place in May as we are delighted to be hosting the inspiring author of How to Train Your Dragon- Cressida Cowell. Happy reading everyone!
