By law, a child does not have to start full-time school until the beginning of the school term following his or her fifth birthday.

In Leeds, children can now start school at the beginning of the school year in which they reach their fifth birthday.

Parents considering applying to the school are welcome to come and look round. Please contact the school to make an appointment.

Details of our admissions policy are arranged by the Local Authority and more information can be found in the document below or by contacting the admissions department using the contact details below.

Admission to RP

To be eligible to join our Resourced Provision Class children need an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan), and are placed in the class by the Leeds SENSAP team. Parents seeking more support for their child in school should speak to their school’s SENCO in the first instance.

Reception Admissions 2020

Parents accepting offers

We will be directing parents to your individual websites for contact details to use when accepting their offers. Many of you fed back that you would prefer to accept offers by email – please make sure that this is clearly visible on your website if this is the case.

Final offers available on SAM

The Admissions Team has now activated the “View Final Offers” option so you can now see the children who have been offered a place at your school for Reception in September 2020 or Year 3 in Junior Schools.   In order to access the information you need to select “Admission to Primary School 2020” option in SAM and then select “View Final Offers” as below.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that it is against the law for offers to be conveyed in any way to parents prior to national offer day on Thursday 16 April, when families will receive their offer from the Admissions Team (8am onwards).

Families do not need to take any action on offer day, as they have until 30 April to submit waiting list requests and 15 May to submit appeal requests. Due to coronavirus (COVID-19), appeal hearings are on hold until we receive further guidance from the Department for Education.

If families are not happy with the school they have been offered they can ask to be added to the waiting list for any Leeds school (including schools they haven’t previously asked for)  and can appeal against the refusal of a place at a preferenced school. Waiting list forms and appeal forms are available at www.leeds.gov.uk/offerdayprimary.

Can you please recommend to any family who are considering refusing their offer that they:

  • are aware that if they turn down a place, it will be allocated to another child and we cannot guarantee a place will become available at a closer school to home – they could be left without a Reception place in September
  • understand accepting an offer doesn’t impact the chances of being offered a place from the waiting list or increase the chances of success at an appeal hearing
  • any family who refuses an offer must confirm this in writing to startingprimary@leeds.gov.uk and will be asked to confirm where they will be educating their child in September. If a parent confirms this to you directly in writing please forward to us.
