4th March was Bake Off day seeing the return of the Great Parklands Bake Off and the standard of baking was higher than ever. The theme this year was stories and books as our bake off formed part of Book Week. The talent on show in the cakes made by our children was absolutely amazing.
The lovely folk at Mable Therapy sponsored the event providing £100 to fund prizes and joined the school council to judge the entries. Judging was a tough job and the discussions were passionate with difficult decisions to be made with only 4 finalists going forward in each group.
The final decision was in the hands of our Mable judges who after lots of discussion picked our fantastic winners and runners up. The winning baker in each Key Stage won a £25 cash prize, certificate and a Bake Off spoon, with a £5 prize and spoon for our runners up.
The prizes were presented in our whole school Bake Off assembly which was well attended by parents and families. At the start of our assembly we were treated to a beautiful performance from one of Puccini’s operas by the wonderful Rachel Orr a visiting Headteacher.
At the end of the day we held a cake sale raising over £200 for Katiyo Primary School in Zimbabwe which we hope will be used to build a classroom for the nursery children who currently meet in the local church for their lessons.
Everybody who saw our cakes thought they were fabulous and we even had tweets from Bake Off winner Nancy Birtwhistle and Bake Off winner and TV presenter Nadiya Hussain!
Charlotte our KS1 champion even had tweets from the illustrator of the book her Oi Frog cake was based on – illustrator Jim Field.
I think we could have a future Bake Off champion here at Parklands!
