There was a special buzz at Parklands on May 23rd when the Great British Bake Off came back to our school.
Our school wide bake off competition was open to everyone and the standard of entries from the children was better than ever. Miss Hattersley and the school council had the difficult task of picking the finalists from all the wonderful and rather delicious looking entries.
The tables were brimming with crispy buns, butterfly cakes, Victoria sponges, biscuits and all manner of decorated cakes. Times tables was a popular theme and butterflies were popular too, there was a doll cake, cookie monster, lions and frogs and even a unicorn.
In the afternoon we were extremely lucky to be joined again by Sandy Docherty – one of the contestants on the 2015 series of the BBC’s Great British Bake Off programme. With Miss Hattersley she had the difficult job of choosing a star baker for Early Years, KS1, KS2 and the Staff.
Sandy presented each star baker with a special Parklands star baker wooden spoon and gift and posed for photographs with everyone. She spoke to us about life after the Bake Off and promised to come into school and bake with us in the future. Hopefully we have inspired some future Bake Off and Masterchef winners.
After school with the help of the Friends of Parklands we sold the delicious cakes, buns and biscuits raising over £174 for Katiyo Primary School, our link school in Zimbabwe.
