World Book Day 2021

World Book Day 2021

This year, we had to postpone World Book Day until all of our children came back to school BUT we an amazing day! World Book Day is about celebrating books but we said children could dress up as a book character if they wished. The outfits were out of this world. Well done everyone! We hope you enjoy looking at the photos below.

This year, we were given a challenge to complete at home. We were asked to use a toilet roll to create a book character. We had some fantastic entries. The effort children and parents put into this was outstanding. Well done to everyone who entered the competition- we loved seeing your creations. We had characters from lots of different books like Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and so many more! Two children per year group have been chosen as the winners and will receive a brand new book to take home. However, we were so pleased with all of the entries so we are going to give every child who entered a small prize.

In class, we watched a special World Book Day performance of Arabian Nights. We would like to thank Settle Stories for putting on this great performance for us to watch. We spent the rest of the day doing exciting activities such as sharing stories, creating bookmarks and doing World Book Day quizzes.

After lockdown, we have re-launched our KS2 Reading Challenge. In order to complete the challenge, our children will read 9 books from the different genres below. When 9 books have been read, the children will be able to get a book from our amazing book vending machine! Each class has a special black box in their classroom to keep the books from the genres below safe. We can’t wait to see who will complete the reading challenge this year!

  1. Detective stories
  2. Stories from other cultures
  3. Roald Dahl
  4. Poetry
  5. Autobiography / Biography
  6. Modern fiction
  7. Classics
  8. Shakespeare
  9. Dickens

We know this school year has been difficult but we would like to thank all of our children, parents and carers for their enthusiasm this World Book Day. We are so pleased to see lots of smiling faces back in school! Please enjoy looking at our photos below to see what we got up to on World Book Day!
