Before February half term Year 6 spent a week at Winnmarleigh Hall a PGL outdoor activity centre in Lancashire on their Year 6 Residential. It was February so as one child put it “We didn’t come here for a sun tan!” we had just about every kind of weather over the week but no one let it stop them having a fantastic time. Our days were filled with high energy exciting activities that pushed us to push ourselves and achieve things we didn’t think we could.
We conquered the high ropes course, we climbed Jacob’s Ladder and clambered to the top of the Trapeze post so we could jump and high five the giant pink ball. We soared like eagles, feeling the wind in our hair as we sped down the zip wire. We raced our teachers to the top of the climbing wall and worked together to hoist our friends up in the giant swing (Mr Dyson and Miss Hattersley were gutted that they missed this!)
We learned to communicate and work together as a team, taking part in team games, solving problems and tackling the challenge course. Even the rain didn’t stop us gaining bushcraft skills – building shelters, working out what we would need to survive and using flints and steel to create sparks for a fire.
The food was brilliant, there was always lots to choose from and plenty to fill our plates with, we needed to make sure we had enough energy for all those activities. Josh was our instructor and kept us entertained with games and jokes whilst we waited for meals or activities.
Our evenings were filled with more fun, we played a giant version of hide and seek called ambush, learned to play gaga ball, tackled the million pound drop quiz and enjoyed a last night disco complete with dancing flamingos!
It was no surprise that Mrs Rennison was able to snap several of us asleep on the coach on the way back to school. We’d had a fantastic week and made memories to last a lifetime, along with lots of muddy washing to take home! When can we go again Mr Dyson?
